I went for H&R springs which are -3,5cm. My dampers are standard. Have a look on this thread too, I posted some pictures of my bella lowered there.

If you have enough money sprigs+dampers are the best way to go. But if you are on budget, and you dont want more that -3 or -4cm lowering, stock dampers are quite fine. As my car is quite new and I didnt wanted to throw dampers away, I am planning to use them and once they worn out I replace them with sport ones.
I never tried different setups, but I can recommend you H&R springs, the ride is much better. Not too harsh and the car handles superb. Just be carefull about potholes, the sound when you run in one is heartbreaking.
