Hi all

Have a 156 Sportwagon, and the passenger side rear window is stuck down. There is no click when trying either the front or rear button, the drivers door window lock is off. I have checked the fuses and they are all ok.

Have removed the door card and checked all wiring and connections which seem to be intact, so is this likely to require the replacement of just the motor, or the motor and regulator. I have seen talk of an accentuator, but cannot trace this mythical component.

However, my immediate concern is how to now manually raise the window as the inside has got somewhat wet.

Can I remove the motor and manually wind the regulator, or is it a case of removing the whole mechanism and propping the window up with something.

Thanks.

Swap the switch/ pocket assembly quickly over from the other rear door , plug it in and test the switch... If it works, then you know its the old switch... If it doesn't then you know its the motor or frame... Either way, at least the window has a 50% better chance of closing for now...

Personally, I would use the opportunity while the door trims/card are off to spray the rails, frame and runners with silicon lubricant spray, just to eliminate a chance of it being a bit too stiff for the motor safety cut off (all cars with electric windows require a safety pressure setting in order to prevent accidental choking of unruly kids in them... Damn it:lol:

Thanks Graham

Just in from testing, swapping thumping just about everything behind the door card, an lo an behold it now works!! Well, maybe works is a bit too optimistic, judders upwards would be more accurate, an I'm a bit frustrated to not know exactly what was causing the fault.

Think for now I'll leave the window lock on before sourcing a replacement unit, not looking forward to swapping that regulator.

Judder under load when raising the window can be a number of problems but most likely a worn plastic worm-wheel in the motor's worm gear drive. In severe cases the worm jumps the teeth on the worm-wheel making a machine-gun noise.

Other possible problems the steel cable stretching or fraying, problems with the motor brushes and commutator or friction in the guide system. In most cases a complete new motor and regulator system is needed.
