I have just blanked the EGR valve on my 1.9 8v JTD (156). It didn't bring up any error messages with the ECU. I just want to make sure I have done it right. I have seen the metal blanking plates on ebay but I made my own out of an old thin alloy coke can. I have now read on another forum that these will burn through and the metal plates from ebay are better as they are thicker metal. I also want to make sure I blanked it at the right places. The easiest thing to do was remove the metal ribbed looking pipe bit and I put a blanking plate either side of this (ie, one going into the engine block and the other into the black part of the EGR. I contemplated also putting another one at the top of the exhaust manifold thing which brings the exhaust gasses into the EGR valve but the bolts were fiddly to get to. It seems to run better with no hesitation (which it had around 1500 revs).
1. Will the alloy can burn through, if so how quickly?
2. Have I blanked it at the right places?
