so i took my 147 jtd in for its mot today, i get a phone call about an hour after i took it in telling me that it failed on emissions then told they tried to retest the emissions and when they gave some gas there was a cloud of black smoke which filled their workshop and the engine started revving on its own?? the guy was telling me he thinks its the turbo, but because he took it to another garage for the actual mot he hasn't seen the car and is only guessing till he sees it. whats ****ed me off was that i didn't know when i booked the mot that he wouldn't be doing it himself otherwise i wouldn't have gone there (I've had previous work done by him and he is an alfa specialist, hence why i went). but obviously not a mot tester, i can accept a bit of blame for not checking properly.
Also when i drove the car to them this morning i had no problems at all no loss of power no smoke no warning signs at all, and he also said the same when he drove it to this testing garage.
I am still without my car because the garages between them were not able to sort a recovery vehicle to get it back to the garage that i actually took it too, as they are saying it's not drive able?? so within an hour seems like they have broken my car. is it possible for the turbo to just fail without any signs at all (during an mot?) seems strange too that it all of a sudden failed whilst its sat stationary in a garage that's like having a heart attack at a hospital. i wont name the garage in question yet as i think its only fair to give him a chance to look at it tomorrow and give me his diagnosis.
