GT Steering Wheel Buttons

My 2007 GT steering wheel buttons have started behaving very strangely. The buttons are randomly doing different things on the volume side. Vol + tends to mute, vol - tends to increase volume. Sometimes it works ok but mostly not.

I have just installed a Pioneer HU using a CTSAR003 could this be the cause?

I did see a thread where a few people described this problem but none found the cause.

Any ideas??

Had an issue when I installed a Pioneer HU in my 147, but it wasn't random like yours seems to be, but it did turn out to be a faulty CTSAR003 adaptor, swapped that and all was fine, may be worth changing it to see.

Mine does the same on the standard headunit, it's done it for 3 or 4 years.

Not a GT

It's your clockspring. Mine was doing it - eventually they stopped working unless on full lock and then the horn went (a week before MOT so had to fix it). A new one from a breakers off the same year car sorted it. Be aware that if you do change the clockspring you're likely to need a steering angle reset with software or you'll end up with ABS errors.

Thank for the replies guys. Buttons worked fine this morning but this afternoon were worse than ever, the right side have gone haywire now.

I'll keep my eye out for a new clock spring, may try the old HU to rule out a CTSAR003 error.

They might benefit from a quick clean up, mine were misbehaving too.

I remove the airbag, followed the blue ribbon connectors, removed and reseated them a couple of times, which seems to have cured them.

They still misbehave occasionally, and I find you have to really press the volume buttons hard to get them to work, but they now work as they should.
