Autolusso Bournemouth and my GT

At the start of this month I made a phonecall to Autolusso Bournemouth, I booked in my 2004 GT for a cambelt change and Waxoyl at the end of the month after reading recommendations about them on this forum. I had wanted it done sooner, but understood that they were busy. The local specialists and dealers don’t really cut the mustard (according to reviews only, not personal experience). Lawrence, at Autolusso, said that he could sort out a loan car for me to use whilst mine was being worked on.

However, the plot thickens and the customer service soon started to shine brightly.

A few days after making the appointment, I pulled up at traffic lights in the centre of Bath and smiled to myself after seeing a bloke walking past, looking at my car admiringly....or so i thought! He was actually looking at the cloud of steam coming out from under the bonnet! I immediately pulled over and investigated.

An hour later, the AA man diagnosed a water pump issue. As I had pulled over in time, no damage was done, however he advised that I didn't drive it until it had been repaired. I explained to him that it was booked in with Autolusso at the end of the month and then made the call.

I had a quick chat with Lawrence, who told me to get it brought down to him. He said that he didn’t have a loan car available so would get the work done whilst I waited. He even said that he would get staff to stay on if need be, just to get me out of the sticky stuff.

All this from a man I had never met before and a garage I had never used before!

So, I had a pleasant trip down south, exchanging pleasantries with Oli from the AA, and arrived at Autolusso an hour and a half later. A shuffling of Alfa’s occurred and my GT was taken inside, lifted skywards and given the once over.

I was then invited into workshop and was shown around the car. A few things were pointed out to me that would need to be done over the next few months, as well as a split plastic water pipe running across the front of the engine. Pretty pointless replacing the water pump without doing this part as the pressure may split it further. Lawrence explained that they didn't have this in stock and wouldn’t do so until the Monday (it was still Friday). So, off he went, did some juggling, and came back with the offer of a loan car and to start work on my GT on the Monday when the part had arrived.

I took up his offer, went home, carried on with the mundane, and waited for his call. He phoned twice, asking if I wanted other things replaced whilst he had the car apart. He said that he wouldn’t proceed in replacing anything until he had spoken to me. On Tuesday, I received the call to say that the work was done, the car road tested, and was waiting for me to pick her up. It cost me a few quid more that I expected, but it was all the work that I had budgeted for, plus a few other necessary items that couldn’t have been avoided. Probably still a lot cheaper that the main dealers prices though!

To summarise. I can not speak highly enough of Autolusso Bournemouth and everyone there. I could have travelled a few miles into Bristol and had the work done. However, you can’t put a price on recommendations, piece of mind and excellent customer service.

It was perfect. Driving back along the B3081 was awesome (Street view it where Hawcombe Copse is and you’ll see what I mean) as everything felt nice and tight and I was able to attack the bends again with confidence.

A massive thanks to all. See you again!

I am taking my GT in for some suspension repairs next week end and very much looking forward to getting the blinking VDC failure alarm sorted too. Every good artist needs the space they need to do their work... Stay tuned for outcome commentary. The hair is good.. individualistic! Now lets see about the tuning... :-)

I have had a remap and EGR delete at autolusso Bournmouth and can confirm that Lawrence and the lads down there do a great job, are the friendliest bunch and go the extra mile with the service and follow ups..

they are now my go-to place for the GT,and will be doing a Quaife, new clutch, and eibach ARB's over the next few months.

if with some luck I manage to get the maserati 3200 I have my eye on they will be looking after that as well..

its nice when you find the good guys straight off the bat, its the one of the many advantages of the collective knowledge of the forum.

No surprise to me - Laurence and the team are top notch. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Great to see that others on this brilliant forum have had good experiences with Autolusso.

Common brand consistency here.. from all the Autolusso outlets. Great bunch of committed knowledgeable, honest specialists. And thank god for "Autolusso". Just imagine for a second we had to rely on the uk Alfa dealer network. Or rather don't lol. For me a big part of my enjoyment and ownership, and whole experience with my GT, is knowing Ned and the lads are there if anything does go wrong.

I live in Ireland, but visit the south of the UK regular. I try and wait for bits & pieces, so when I go over I can pop in and sort stuff out.
Loz is top notch, and nothing no matter how small, is too much trouble.

Highly recommended

The last time I was there, all I wanted was a sun visor. Not only did he have one, he cleaned it and fitted it, on the spot. All for the Princely sum of a tenner, IIRC

Agreed, Lawrence and his team are not only top blokes who do an exceptional job, but they give good, straightforward advice and don't do unnecessary work.
They even do decent paperwork and answer e-mails, so their admin is good, too!

They made sure my 147GTA was up to scratch during the time I owned it - well worth the 200-mile round trip.
