IIRC when supplied the rubbers have the steel centre collar already fitted. When assembled and tightened up the centre steel collar doesn't turn but the rubber between it and the arm does so all the pivoting action is between the rubber / collar interface thus wearing the rubber. It is this interface that wears; rubber or silicone grease prolongs the life by reducing the wear caused by the pivoting of rubber on steel collar. However, to lubricate this interface you have to push out the centre steel collar to lubricate it. Relatively easy and hand pressure is enough.
Again, IIRC, I also push the rubbers out and lubricated between the alloy arm and rubber bush but I may be mistaken there - it is a while since I have done one.
+1 r11co the inner face of the rubbers have recesses that the grease can sit in.
I suspect that the Alfa mechanics have either fitted poor parts or are to lazy to disassemble parts that are ready to fit.
