156 clutch problems

Hi all,

just to continue on the theme of clutch problems which seem to be popping up at the moment , I have a problem which I've been looking into but can't seem to make any headway....

In about the last inch of travel when I press the clutch pedal in, I get this horrible notchy feeling in the pedal - almost like it's catching on something. I did the obvious and checked the car mats, lubed everything in sight of the clutch pedal, but still no luck.

Last night I got the Mrs to press the pedal in and wo and behold, there's a creaking noise from around the clutch area in the engine bay. It almost sounds like someone closing an old un-lubed car door.

I haven't had a chance yet to whip the battery, try etc out for a look, and thought about giving the release mechanism a fair lube to see if that has any effect.

Has anyone come across this before, and does anyone know what lube oil to use around the release mechanism?
