Alfa 147 mcsf and heat issues

Hi, my sister has just bought herself a 2.0 147 and it has a couple of issues. Firstly it will only blow ambient temp from the blowers into the cabin, despite what temp you set the climate control at. Also the engine temp gauge doesn't work. Is it too much of a coincidence for this to be the case? Could a thermostat problem be responsible for both things?

Also separately the motor control system failure warning came on along with the yellow engine system warning light. She experienced a short spell of really reduced power, but this cleared and the warning message remained. I've told her to take it to get the fault code read, but I'm assuming this cant be linked to the above problem?!

Excuse my ignorance, I'm not very bright when it comes to things like this.

Many thanks for any help?

I believe the climate control takes into account a number of sensor readings, one if which is the engine temperature.

The sensor shouldn't be too hard to replace, and sits in the top of the thermostat housing.

I'd start there personally.

Quite likely to be thermostat failure, its fairly common........feel the top hose and see if it starts to warm up almost straight away....
