...and here is my thoughts to my first Alfa after a couple of months.
Bad points first:
An awful driving position - on a recent long trip I had to stop every couple of hours and reconstruct my frame. Thought they were supposed to have sorted that!
It's leaks like a sieve
I keep clattering my head on the shield grill when the bonnet is open!
The engine is awful to work on.
The good points:
The looks (sigh)
The engine - it might be awful to work on but it's magnificent to use, torrents of thourghly corrupting power accompanied by an exotic soundtrack.
The alert road manners
The surprisingly good build quality
The rarity - even in London I've seen only 1 other
The reliability -so far!
All in all a very interesting and engaging car, and I'm glad I ignored my miss-givings and took a chance on it.
Would I have another? Sadly no. On my income I have to do my own repairs, and being informed that the engine has to be removed to replace the starter for example is hardly practical or desirable. And the driving position is just plain wrong.
Yet for all that I am in no hurry to part with it at present - until something expensive goes on it I shall continue to enjoy it. It's one of those cars that makes you feel good. Not sure what to replace it with.
