Does anyone know where the swarf comes from?? Or can it be from multiple sources?!
I had the AA pick up my car when 4th gear disappeared because I have breakdown repair cover with them - It's like a warranty. They wont pay out for wear and tear (understandable), but will if there's a genuine fault. They basically need to know what's causing the swarf to determine if the claim is valid - simply cleaning the swarf doesn't solve the problem in their words.
Unfortunately the Alfa Specialist I was close to at the time have not heard of this Swarf problem. The AA require the whole box out to inspect it, and it sounds like it's costing way in excess of the £500 claim limit the AA will payout for... if they pay out!
I'm beginning to wish I simply asked my local indy to do it instead - I'm no mechanic.
