1.6 ts cam belt change.

Planning on doing this myself, qualified mechanic but fancy some clarification.
With the variator pulley being changed aswell do i need the Cam locking tools? I assume it would be possible but rather stupid too do it without?
Water pump and tensioner at the same time as belt?

You need the cam locks whatever you are doing as there are no timing marks on this engine.

The water pump on a TS does not have the issues as with a diesel but if it has not been changed before (or you do not know when it was last cahnged) for the few extra pounds it would be worth doing - it also means that the cooling fluids get renewed so it is not a bad thing.

The tensioner probably should also get done as well - that way you can be sure of the state of everything.

Tensioner failure is the main thing that kills belts.......without doubt change the fixed and variable tensioners when you change the belt. Water pump is optional - but if it does start leaking subsequently you've got the job to do again...as its a job that takes a few hours, it depends how you value your time - or if you feel lucky........

Camlocks are ESSENTIAL to do the job properly.......people have done it without but I certainly wouldn't.....
