Re: Alfa extended waranty - Is it worth it?
Warranty is a bit of a misleading word in this context. What the manufacturer provides is a warranty...but any extended cover not provided by the manufacturer, and this includes the extra cover offered by Alfa main dealers is Mechanical Breakdown Insurance. There is a difference, and the cover is much more restricted.
You clearly have to check the small print to see what is covered, and more importantly, what is not covered. Some of the top line warranites are OK..Bear in mind the Alfa warranty is really designed to tie you to the main dealer, and priced in the Alfa dealer way. The key to all warranties being kept valid is the service record, and having it done bang on time..or even a tad early, but not too early.
All insurance is only worth the money if you need to use it, so its a personal value judgment. I have never ever had a used car warranty..which will make you smile when you see the note below.
(I worked for Autoguard 1978-80 and was Assistant Claims Manager for Ford A1 Warranty when Autoguard ran that scheme...its another life ago, and I am sure things have moved on a lot since my time)
