New Alfa owner having problems
Hi everyone I've just bought a 156 2.4JTD 10V from ebay for not much money, it needs a big of tidying but otherwise is lovely!
The first job I'm doing is changing the cambelt as it came with no service history and 70,000 on the clock. I read the useful posts on here on how to change the belt and the aux belt, but I'm having problems with the aux tensioner.
I borrowed a 32mm spanner and tried to move the tensioner but it wouldn't budge. I managed to ride the existing aux belt of the pulleys by pulling it off the eccentric pulley and turning the crank over.
Once I've changed the cambelt I don't know how I'm going to get the new aux belt I bought on.
What's the best way to tension the new aux belt? I tried to undo the 15mm nut on the eccentric pulley but it's on really really tight and I'm worried it'll shear it I keep trying to undo it. I thought I could take the tensioner off and try to free it off, I've undone the three 13mm bolts on it ok but the allen key is also really really tight. I put a socket on the end of the allen key with 6" and 12" extension bars joined together when I try to undo it you can see the allen key bend! Do I need to undo this allen key bolt to remove it and also does it have to be loose for the tension to be adjusted?
Any help would be appreciated!
