Re: Alfa 147 - reliable or not
Cam belts need replacing at 36,000 miles, not 72,00 as recommended.. had various other problems with my 1.6 lusso.. steering rack went after a few months (warranty job), faulty weld in passenger footwell in first year (another warranty job), power steering tubes corroded 3 months out of 3 year warranty..cost 250 quid, and snapped cam belt at 46,000 caused 1750 quids worth of damage. Alfa refused to pay even part of the last two, despite the dealer putting in a goodwill claim.. par for the course..the Customer Service is a sad joke!
My advice?..If you must have one..just pray it isn't a lemon like mine, be prepared for horrible depreciation because Alfa is a laughing stock in the industry, and hope you never have to deal with Alfa GB Customer Service. It has been said many times, but is no less true.. people buy Alfa's INSPITE of the company, not because of it.. I for one would certainly NEVER buy another (would have gone for a GT over my new Golf any day if they had just been more reasonable dealing with my complaints!), which is a shame as they are great to drive and look at.
