Hi all, just signed up here after a google search. Posted this question elsewhere but advised to come to this section.
I have been a SEAT fan for many years, and owned four of them. Last week I sold my Leon FR 2.0 TDi I'd owned from new for a number of reasons, mainly the back seat ride if very poor, and my 18 month old baby keeps getting car sick, but only ever in my Leon! So I begrudgingly got rid and now I'm looking for something new. I want something four or five door, with a good ride for passengers, but not dull and boring to drive, as I haven't quite given up on life just yet! Plus I don't want to follow the crowds and get a Focus or Astra just for the sake of it!
I have always looked the look of Alfa's and that has led me to look at the 156. Lovely looking cars but what should I look in to or think about when looking to buy? I haven't actually had a drive of any but hope to do that very soon.
I should have a budget of up to £2,500 to buy something. So what advice can you offer? What models are best to look for? Is reliability ok? Any major issues I should be aware of?
I saw a tempting one on ebay, which is £1,095 on a 54 plate with 97,000 miles on. Seems much cheaper than anything else but would be lovely while I save for a 159 lol. Here's the description from the seller, thoughts?
Hi Guys, For many years we have successfully run a small Alfa workshop just outside Brighton on the south coast. The feedback we have here on ebay is 100% selling cars or engines even Alfa door handles!
This car is offered with a warranty and if you are local we shall look after the car for years to come.
Here for sale is a facelift 1.6 Alfa 156 it was first used Nov 04 in "thunder grey" with a cloth interior. The exterior is original and superb just a few very minor scratches the interior is equally well cared for and clean. The alloys are good with good tyres.
The car is an excellent drive and everything works as it should it has a full service history this includes a clutch change regular services cambelt change etc etc and we are fitting a new cambelt this week with an intrim service and it will come with a new mot.
Comes with original handbooks two remote locking keys, manuals and full receipts for work done.
The last owner who has just traded with us has bought a newer car, he spent £2000 buying it over a year ago and in excess of £600 getting up her to scratch we are arranging a new mot and service so it will be all ready to go and a bargain buy.
