I had this issue and for me it was a matter of cleaning connections with electronic contact cleaning spray. Specifically the selection sensor on the back of the selespeed actuator.
However, it is best you arm yourself with an OBD cable (from rarebear. Do a search here) and MultiECUScan (known as MES, Previously FES) for diagnosing error codes, parameters and for recalibration. This symptom can be more than my issue. Can sometimes mean connections, clutch assembly, accumulator or battery or other issues. Do a search and read some material on the selespeed issues - especially before you go wasting £££ on expensive parts.
Cogito Ergo Zoom - I think. Therefore I drive fast.
