Help 156 saloon bootlid light connections

9 years old and it seems opening and closing the boot has damaged the connection to the drivers side reverse and fog light situated in the bootlid.

I had the light out warning come on when the rear fogs were on, so naively bought a new bulb. Only to find once changed it was still out, and indeed the old bulb still looked intact.

On more inspection moving the boot it came on briefly, then wiggling the rubber joint between car and boot the same happened.

I am thinking of pulling the lining off the bootlid completely and tracing back to where it is dodgy and rejoining the cable, but can see this could open a can of worms. Anyone had the same?

At the moment the passenger side reverse and foglight are functioning OK. Though the boot interior light also seems to be linked by this connection between boot and car
