Gear/clutch issue - help!

Hi all, 1.9Jtd, 2005 54 plate at 136k miles. 6 speed box

When it's in neutral, it is grating somewhat. This disappears when the clutch is depressed but reappears when in gear, even when the clutch is down. In the middle of the box it is fine. Clutch is a little high but it has been fine recently, plenty of power etc and timing belt plus pas pump replaced 1k back . Any thoughts?

Have you dipped the gear oil using the dipstick, to check there is plenty in the box? If you've not had a clutch change in the past I bet that oil is manky.

Would agree with the above, other than that usually a sign of thrust bearing wear or possibly sticking clutch splines

Ive replied to your other thread but it could also be a gearbox bearing issue.
