2.0 TS crankshaft sensor and codes

Hi all,
I have recently replaced my crankshaft sensor after the mechanic checked fault codes as car was on occasion not starting. I was told that I would need to get the fault codes "wiped" once replaced, but the problem is, my car will not start at all/run very very poorly with the new sensor installed. This makes it hard to get it to the mechanic.... Does this make sense to anyone?

The car has only not started twice in the last month and now with new sensor installed it won't be moving anywhere. Could I have installed it wrong? Am I able to wipe the fault codes myself? I am trying to save myself $300 by taking it to the mechanic for what is a very easy installation. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks,

You shouldn't need to get the fault codes wiped to make it run properly. The crank sensor has a rubber O ring that sometimes gets left behind when you remove the old one. If you then put the new one on top, the sensor is to far away and will not work.
