Motor control system failure on dash
Just got a bit of a tip for 147 owners with the "motor control system failure warning" coming up on the dash.
After replacing my alternator, I recently re-connected my inlet manifold to the head and immediately after doing so noticed the dreaded "motor control system failure" warning on the dash, as I had disconnected most of the electrical plugs to get the manifold out, I thought I had simply missed one (usually happens after re-building anything), so I checked them all again with no luck.
Starting to get a bit worried, I read threads on here relating to the same thing and I decided to purchase a ODB2 code scanner. In the mean time I tried to fix any other niggling little problems, on of which was a side light bulb failure.
I replaced the bulb, started the car to make sure all the lights worked and guess what? the motor control system failure went out!
I am really not joking, the only thing I did to the car was replace the side light bulb and the fault cleared!
Since that time I have had ABS warnings and other things which were simply put down to a flattening battery.
Whilst the engine was turning over witht the starter motor, more and more lights were coming up!
So, my top tip to everyone is that before you go and buy something you may not need, make sure all the little things are sorted first, especially electrical problems, and that your battery is fully charged.
Touch wood, since then I have had trouble free driving and no other faults warning lights come up.
