To be honest, all you can do is work with what the diagnostics are telling you at the moment. From rereading you entire post, I see your EBD fault came after the original ABS VDC fault, so it might be worth double checking what it was you did before it arrived, just in case.
I've had another thought, it might be worth plugging your old pump back into the system(without fitting it or plumbing it so to speak), and scanning the system again, just to see what happens, as you didn't scan it with your new leads before. One thing though, I'd probably put it in a nice thick plastic bag, just in case it decides to spit brake fluid out from one of it's orifices, you would want that on your paint too. That way, if the fault is different you might be able to make a good pump from the two.
Lots of options to investigate, none of which cost much and your learning about the system all the time. So keep at it, I'm sure you'll get there sooner rather than later.
My money is still on a(nother) faulty ABS ECU, but we'll see.
