Fitting Cruise Control to a 1998 156

How can I fit cruise control to my 1998 156? Is it just a plug and play unit? Or is there another method?
I live in Canada, where these Alfa models and service is non-existant. We have wide open spaces, and many long distance empty highway. So cruise is key feature.

Not easy at all on a pre 2002 156.
From the 2002 interior facelift models it is an easy retro-fit to get Cruise (you literally just plug the stalk in), but that doesn't work for the older (pre-2002) 156.
