You should also have alot of condesation running out the drain under the car....after 20 min of running or so.
Hope that helped.
So, the story so far....
Finally drive into a garage on the way to work this morning and asked for a regass. Nice mechanic asked what was wrong with it. I said nothin really - just not cold enough. Nice mechanic gave me a funny look and asked if I had the car for long - I said three weeks. Nice mechanic suggested we test the system....
He used a probe to check the temperature coming out of the air vents in the cabin with the a/c dial on lowest temperature and fan on top speed. He suggested that on a decent system the temperature should go down to about 2 deg or thereabouts depending on the car and the ambient temperature. My centre console temperature got down to about 4 after a while (he gave up checking that one and thought that it would go even lower), and the side vents measured even lower at just under 2 degrees. The ambient air temperature was probably around 23 degrees.
He thought the system was fine - and that a regass probably not needed. He did suggest though that the air flow was a bit poor. On speed 4 he would have expected a lot more flow. Suggested that the pollen filter may be clogged.
So, 5 minutes later, I drove off with a free check, no money spent on regass, psycologically happy with my aircon, and thankful for a concientious mechanic!
PS: Second Alfa experience: While driving away from garage, I was ignoring the amber petrol light thinking this was probably just the dodgy fuel guage problem mentioned elsewhere and getting irritated by it.....decided to fill up at a petrol garage and shocked when 63.52litres went in the tank - I was obviously driving on fumes!!! Phew!
PPS: Additionally, the garage attendent was shocked that the car could take that many litres - I'm sure he thought I must have filled up two cars!
