Moral of the story:
should have made sure that the car is tip top and in safe drivable condition... There is absolutely no excuse for any owner to not have a cursory safety check on a car that they are selling in the interest of carrying potential buyers... It doesn't take a lot of effort to check oil, coolant, lights, brake fluid etc. and last but not least tyre, tread and pressures.... even when you know a buyer is coming to view, you can do this with time to spare.
I am also disgusted that a young child was involved in being carried by the seller along for the ride obviously at speed and in an "unchecked" car... Shameful
But then again, I have seen this thousands of times working for VOSA and it never ceases to amaze me just how many drivers/owners claim ignorance when you point out unsafe equipment on their cars when they have a small child, who has no way of consenting to be a passenger while strapped in the back seat!
NO EXCUSES, The information is free and available and safety checks are also free! especially this time of year
It does boil my p!ss when a potential buyer
has the utter cheek to test drive a vehicle with no initial intention of purchasing
regardless of what their feelings are towards the car later... It's wrong and dishonest.
On both counts, the seller and buyer screwed each other over with a distinct lack of respect and courtesy in my honest opinion, They deserve everything they both got!
I'm just glad and relieved that no one was hurt... Pride and the sense of injustice can heal quickly... Major injuries take a long time... Think yourselves both very lucky and LEARN from it!
