Just to throw in my own 2p, I have Apollo Acelere Winters on my GT at the moment and they are a dream on my 16" Teledials. They actually take corners better on the local rough B roads than my 18" during warmer weather. The grip is so good that they will probably wear out before the white stuff arrives!
Wet or dry roads are no problem, except for greasy corners, but nothing likes greasy corners.
Check out the Dunlop Sportmaxx RT tyres for summer use. Outstanding wet grip/braking and dry cornering. I might go against the grain here and say that I'll be sticking to 16" wheels for the summer for several reasons - price, grip and handling on the narrow stuff that we call roads up here in rural Scotland. I'll give you an example.
From my house to a mates house near Beauly, Invernesshire is 138 miles and only 60 of that is A road on the route I take. Everything else is twisty B road and the 18s just don't cope with 2.5 hours of "playing" on that kind of surface. 205/55/16 cope just fine!
I have had lots of fun with Dunlops on all my cars. They might wear a bit but what do you want for fun and £65 a corner!
