156 boot sensor

Have tried the hairdryer treatment, much to the amusement of my neighbour but to no avail.
Other than replace the whole boot mech is there anything else worth trying?
Did consider just cutting the wires to disconnect it..would this work?

Not greatly fussed if it functions as I want to trade it in for another Alfa in next couple of weeks.
Any ideas on a solution or even any offers on an 88k 53 plate grey facelift with tarty natural leather interior?
