Alfa 156 Sportivo - Strange Happening???

I hope it is ok to post my question in this part of the forum - if not MOD please feel free to move to where you think it is more appropriate.

My bella doesn't get out on the road very much as I do a lot of foreign travel for the company I work for.

Last Saturday being the beautiful day that it was I decided to take to the open road. She was a bit sluggish to start, just figured the battery was a little low as it had not been started for a while, but it did start and off I went.

Drove about 20 miles and pulled in for fuel. When I came out it would not start (had to push it away from the fuel pumps) and there was a strange whirring noise. When I checked the on board computer it had reset itself to January 1st 2012 ??

Tried it a couple of more times with no luck so called the AA (thank goodness I am a member). When the AA guy arrived I explained what happened and he said to me "turn her over" which I did and lo and behold she started and has continued to start since.

Can anyone give me an idea as to what the strange whirring noise was and why the onboard computer reset itself??

Appreciate any help.

Daidy, I reckon you'll have a better chance of an answer in the 156 lounge.
