Alfa 156 - few minor faults, can you help?
My love affair with my old 156 V6 continues. Car is generally in great health mechanically, but I have noticed some minor faults now I've done a few thousand miles in her. Perhaps you crafty 156 veterans can give me a steer?
1) The auto windscreen clear function has stopped working, I.e the last notch when turning the fan selection dial (or whatever it's called!) all the way to the right. It used to automatically make the fans blow full blast on the screen, but now it does nothing.
2) the car seems to steam up excessively and the side windows are particularly hard to clear.
3). When the fans are on, they seem to 'pulse' rather than producing a constant stream of air, whatever speed is selected on the central dial.
4). The footwell heaters never really get very hot. My previous GT was like this too. Just a design flaw as they are older cars?
5). The temperature selection dial does not illuminate when I have my lights on at night. Fan speed and fan selector dials light up fine.
6) one of the front suspension arms has a little excess play. My suspension creaks when going over bumps. Is one caused by the other and does anyone have an idea of what it would cost for parts and labour to change?
So, nothing major really, but even though the car is worth buttons, I am a bit if a perfectionist and would like to try to resolve these niggles.
Any help or pointers would be gratefully received.
P.S. excuse odd post time on a Sunday. Work alarm went off at 5:45am and wide awake now grrrr. There goes my Sunday lay in...
Luck is the residue of opportunity and design...
