I had 200bhp map on 156 2.4jtd by Angel tuning. That was truly stunning (did smoke a lot though on throttle) and thrashed within an inch of it's life and a clutch every 40 - 45,000 miles. If you can afford a map expect to afford a clutch sooner than the 75 - 100,000 they ought to last. That car was mapped at 40,000 and sold at 125,000. There were no drive shaft issues only clutches.
I now have an AHM 240 bhp map on a 159 200 2.4 jtdm and no clutch issues in 15,000 miles but the map was applied to the car when it had only done 15,000 miles on it. i.e mapped at 15,000 and now 15,000 miles later, car has 30,000 on it and no problems. The difference in driving is night and day. Pre map 6th gear was almost useless below 70mph and offered little or no acceleration the map has completely changed that pulling strongly from about 50mph.
If you want to experience a completely different and more pleasing car to drive car get it mapped.
If you can control yourself avoiding low rpm heavy throttle then the clutch will last but the trouble is the power and ease that the car pulls low rpm becomes addictive.
Make your own chice but also bear in mind most remaps turn off the EGR and replace the DPF so, unless you are doing lots of motorway miles, you do get some very significant maintenance savings there.
