Madness 2000 156 V6 Sportronic Exhaust Front Pipe

Hi all. I've just bought a 2000/W 156 V6 Sportronic Auto from a guy who was threatening to scrap it (couldn't let that happen!). She was over heating which turned out to be a head gasket, which I replaced and now she runs beautifully. I put her in for an MOT but she failed on a blowing front pipe. No problem I thought, just get a new one...

Unfortunately this has been easier said than done. I can find loads for the V6 manual, but the Sportronic has an extra Lambda sensor located just under the join to the front bank exhaust manifold. The second Lambda sensor is just at the bottom of the rear bank manifold, and the regular position for the Lambda (near the flexi section just before the cat) just has a metal plug in it. Apparently this setup is unique to the V6 Sportronic, but otherwise i can't see any difference in shape or fitting to the manual pipe.

I've managed to find one place which sells the part, but they want a whopping £750 for it which seems a bit crazy!

Would really appreciate any help or suggestions regarding where I might be able to get a reasonably priced replacement, or maybe some way of modifying a standard pipe?

I think you may be over thinking it too much.
Buy a manual version front bank front pipe from a bespoke manufacturer like MIJ Exhausts in the East Midlands, send them the old one for a pattern and ask them to drill and weld in a standard receptor nut for the lambda sensor.. Job done. They will post it back to you

In reality it should be no more than £60-70 extra on top of the standard front pipe

When it works, start doing it on a regular basis, sell them on Ebay as a cottage industry and undercut the "muppets" who gave you a cost of £750 by half the price

BTW... A bit of helpul info....It's a "Q-System" not a "Sportronic" that was fitted to the 166 2.5 and 3.0 (ZF box)
The Q-System is designed by Aisin that make auto boxes for Toyota and Lexus no less and are bullet proof in comparison to the ZF boxes that seem to be made of Swiss cheese and built by inept Oompa Lumpah's

Cheers for the useful info, have been thinking along those lines anyway. Did have a cheaper quote for the front pipe, £530...!

And thanks for the correction, the car was sold to me as a 'Sportronic' and never thought to check. Have never had an Alfa and never even considered an auto until now, I stand corrected!
