GT front sidelight holder stuck in headlight unit

I'm in a bit of a pickle, partially self inflicted. I've had to change front sidelight bulbs a few times and always found them fiddly. This time however, the holder would not come out of the headlight assembly. I managed to break off the little handle trying. Having now resorted to removing the unit from the car in order to get some plyers on it it still won't budge and is at risk of more damage. My guess is it has been pushed too far in and one of the plastic lugs is hooked on the casing. Whatever, it is in there for good.

I'm almose resigned to replacing the headlight unit but before I do can anyone tell me if it is a valid thing to remove the front of the unit and if so how to do it with out trashing it. I'm hoping this will give me enough access to maybe push the holder out.

Failing that, has anyone got for sale a RH (Drivers side) headlamp unit for a 2006 JTDm GT?

I would persevere, Bish. It took me ages to get the holder out in a similar situation. A mirror and some fine long-nosed pliers helped.

Good Luck!
