Alternator - Source of more than one problem?
Picked up my first Alfa which is a 2001 156 2.5 V6 on Saturday. All very well looked after, belts etc all done.
Test drove it a couple of weekends back and the only problem was it needed a jump start which we all put down to being parked for a long time. The dealer used it a couple of times last week to make sure it ran OK before I picked it up this weekend - which it did.
Got about 20 minutes from home and the speedo started being erratic and now doesnt work at all. Ive done some searching and can see its all from the ABS sensor (front left wheel?). Is this likely to be a dodgy wire or an actual sensor?
Got home parked up for a few hours then went out. 25 minutes after that, the airbag light came on then just after the ABS light then the engine started to get jerky so pulled over in a layby. A friend managed to jump start me but as soon as I turned the lights on it died again. Managed to get the AA to me (within reasonable time for once!) and he diagnosed a faulty alternator as there was no charge. Noticed today that the EML was on, didn't notice it last night but then again it is hidden behind the steering wheel.
Would the new alternator remove the ABS and airbag lights? Again, could it be a connection issue or a new unit? Managed to get it back to a local garage where they will get me a price for all of the above. What bill should I be looking at roughly?
