I've never heard of an Alfa clutch line failing, i guess becasue the working pressure is far less than the servo assisted fluid pressure in the brake flexies.
The more likely cause is wear, especially if the box has been out at some stage and the hose put back in the wrong place ... I know as I had to have a new one when my g/box was changed for that reason.
Interestingly many drivers feel that braided brake lines give a wooden feeling to the pedal.
I've got them and I don't feel that ... I prefer them now with the braided hoses, and that's with standard Lucas Delphi pads ... (Ferodos are on the list for one day!). Original hoses made pedal feel "squidgy" ... now much firmer and solid.
