Is it only (official) Alfa dealers who have an ‘Examiner’? When does such software/ equipment get released to the ‘specialist’ outfits? Or do they just get cloned copies?

Reason I ask is because this fault requires diagnostics by an Examiner, which I’m informed, is only available from an official garage. Is this the case? A smaller outfit says they have this equipment. But I don’t want them try to analysis newer electronics using dated software.

Re: "Examiner"

the "examiner" is a hardware and software package that is only released to authorised alfa/fiat distributors. however, if the independent workshop has the contacts, they can also license examiner through the alfa distributor. that's how my mechanic gets his examiner tool. its perfectly legal. they have to pay an annual fee for continued usage and updates.

there are also some garages using other OBD diagnostic tools and passing them off as "examiner". u shd see the word "examiner" on the bootup screen if its the real thing.
