156 Selespeed wont change gear
I have read quite a few posts to see if I can find anyone getting the same problems as me but nothing seems to match. I have two problems I think.
The first happens intermittently. Everything can fine on the car for days, weeks or even a couple of months. All of a sudden while driving the dashboard will start beeping and I cannot change gear. Sometimes the gearbox light comes on others it doesn't. This will last for about 20 seconds and I will either be able to change gear again or the gearbox will go into neutral and I can put it back in gear from there. It has happened a couple of times going round tight left hand bends. Just to say I have checked the selespeed fluid levels and all seem fine.
The second problem has only happened once but I have had my local garage check the error codes and it has thrown up a few. The second problem started with the first problem of beeping and not being able to change gear but every time I stopped at the lights the car would stall and take a couple of minutes to restart. I had to end up knocking it into neutral every time I stopped for a second. Also when I tried to [ark I could not get into reverse without stalling. It took about 6 attempts to park.
After going to my meeting an leaving the car for about an hour the problem had gone and a week later the car is still ok. I still get the random beeping and no gears occasionally though.
The error codes that the garage found are P0725, P1743 and P1762.
The mechanic recommended changing the crank sensor or even cleaning it first and if that didn't fix the problem that we should change the gear selector sensor.
I would really appreciate an Alfa guru's opinion on if I am heading in the right direction with my fixes. The car is booked in Monday to have the crank sensor done.
