Alfa 147 Key Problem - Hellllppppp!!!

Hi, I bought my Alfa 147 back in May. When I bought it only came with one flip control key. I was told by the seller that we could only use the key to open and drive etc. because the key fob battery was flat. I have happily been driving and using my 147 without using the automatic open/close etc of the key fob ever since. Being a helpful 11 year old, my son has found a battery yesterday and replaced the one in the key fob (great!) and pressed all the buttons. My problem now is this, the 'open' button on the keyfob is totally despressed and completely lifeless & useless!!(this is probably why the system was over ridden in the first place). I can now use the keyfob to lock to the car but not unlock which leads my to all kinds of problems. Every time I open the car the alarm gos off and I can't drive it because the immobiliser has kicked in. Can anyone help me in telling me how I can permanently override the system in order that I can go back to just using the key without the fob?????? (any maybe when I calm down I can replace the key properly!)

Get yourself down timpsons or similar and get them to make you a new key. Cost me 25.

Just after checking a 02 147 and i can start and drive her with the alarm engaged , i locked it on the fob then was able to start it .
Read in the manual the fob operated the alarm .
There are different settings on the alarm and that's as much as i know on this sorry .

Hello Michelle,

Might be wortha search on eBay; we had our spare keys overhauled by a chap on there and have been fine. There were also some units with blank keys, if I remember: you could get one (or two!!) and get a main dealer (shudder) or an alfa specialist (better)to code the key to your system via a plug in diagnostic machine. Hope that helps.
