I've had a problem of erratic idle for about a year, got rid of it for a few months twice, by spraying carb cleaner over / around the throttle valve, but think I was a bit reserved and gunk on the engine side of valve didn't really cleared away, hence it came back quickly. Think now maybe I got a bit too carried away and moved the valve flap too far and have upset the fly-by-wire / stepper motor.
Problems only appear when thoroughly warmed up and then intermittently, usually when making v short movements in traffic - swinging around 700rpm +/- anything from 100 to 600, but occasionally so bad it cuts out, or when almost stopping to turn into driveway, revs get so low I lose power steering (managed to miss the wall so far!)
She starts and drives fine otherwise, ignoring the squeaky front brake, rattly dash, suspected water pump slipping at high load/revs and rust starting to bubble on front corners of the roof!!!
MAF only a year old, air intake not leaking as far as I can tell.
Has anyone got any ideas if I can check anything else?
I guess the ECU / throttle fly-by-wire bits control the idle.
Can I get a "throttle reset" from a Bosch fuel injection specialist if the fly-by-wire is upset - have read about this on an oild post, but no detail was given. Don't like the prospect of forking out for a new throttle valve/body, having just had to cough up for a new radiator, which still hasn't totally solved the hot running problem.
Any useful advice welcome!
