Hi, yep I changed the sump, though on my 2003 2.4jtd 10v. Its not too bad. From memory, I removed exhaust from turbo, and let it dangle on the flexi. Had to remove the clamp under there too. Then removed all bolts that were visible in the sump, plus a further 3 I think (was a couple of years back now) which are fitted vertically into the side of the bellhousing. Then remove oil level sensor wires, and heave to remove (gently with a couple of knocks from a rubber mallet to break seal).
I bought a series 1 156jtd sump which doesn't have the oil level sensor (£125 from fleebay) So I re-tapped the blind casting on my "new" sump and fitted an oil sensor. Remove baffles if its second hand and ensure its scrupulously clean.
I went to the factors to order a gasket and was told it was fitted with RTV Silicone originally, so bought a decent brand tube of that, clean all mating faces well, squirt on a line of Gasket compound and evenly tighten all bolts. Exhaust back on and fresh oil, away you go!
Interestingly, the "new" sump (which was s/hand from fleebay) came welded along the foot at the back where they all break, and I sold my broken one for £25 quid on ebay, which I assume someone will weld and flog, so perhaps go down the welding route on yours?
