156 T.spark tapping engine
I wonder if anyone can help me, as after reading posts on here describing similar sounds I'm a little worried.
Recently I've noticed a tapping sound at idle. This continues with an increase in revs and seems to come from the centre of the engine, does not seem to be coming from belts.
This sound isn't overly load, you have to struggle to hear it over the background sound of the engine, but it's definitely there, and I'm sure its got loader the last couple of times I've driven it.
I can't think of anything else it could be other than a problem with the engine itself i.e. bearings worn, I don't think its heat shied or belts.
I've owned the car for 6 years, bought at 55K, now on 99K. I've never allowed the oil to go below the min point on the dipstick since I've owned it, i just refuse to accept the engine may have had it as I want to keep the car but won't be able to justify a new engine/rebuild.
Any suggestions from anyone of possible causes before I take it in to the garage. Especially those that might help to make me stop thinking the worst.
