So after installing the uppers on Saturday, and then reinstalling them yesterday, this time going through the greasing exercise... the creak is still there bad not as bad as it was..
Before replacing the uppers, the most annoying thing about the car was that it tram tracked. It also had bad torque steer, it would wander in corners and there was a vibration in the steering.. All of which I put down to old dampers and probably a wheel alignment and lower, stiffer springs.
Well, ALL of that has gone.. after re-fitting the uppers yesterday and greasing everything I could think of with red rubber grease and copper grease.. the car tracks straight, its quieter (except for the creak), there's NO torque steer, the vibration is gone and... it corners like a madman. So well in fact that i can now hold off upgrading to Bilstein B6's.
So, as much as I would have liked the creak to go to hell.. the job was well worth it and I am very very happy indeed.
I've drenched the lower bushes and arb bushes with silicon spray, hopefully that will quiet them down a bit although so far, it hasn't. Another option is to disconnect the droplinks, and respray the arb bushes while wobbling it and rotating it to ensure the silicon penetrates.. I'll do that in a couple of weeks if need be.
And, when the funds permit, i'll order lowers, replace them, and get my mechanic to install the arb for me. That's a job I can't and really don't want to do.
Given I've had the car for 5 years, I doubt that any work had been done to the suspension prior to me owning it, after all it only had 60,000kms on it.. So I expect the rear bushes will need doing which.. if her indoors allows, I'll add to the list.
Thanks for all the tips and advice.. Happy days!
