Have I bust it ?

OK - I'm 2 weeks into my Alfa experience

Now suddenly the front end is creaking alarmingly, everything seems to still work OK it just creaks.

Is this another one of Alfa's little surprises or have I knackered it.

Incidently I do have a mechanical warranty but if it is something simple I would rather not look too stupid & if it is something serious I will be visiting the previous owner and / or the garage that serviced her the day before I collected.

Re: Have I bust it ?

This is a very common fault that I had on my 156 until recently. I had the Front Upper Suspension Arms changed last week and the creak has disappeared. I bought them from Shop4parts and had them fitted at a local garage. Total cost 140.

Or you might just change the bushings...

Get some decent powerflexes

Re: Have I bust it ?

The creaks are caused by the infamous upper arm bushings. You need to replace them.

Re: Have I bust it ?

If you're reasonably confident with the old socket set, the upper links are a DIY task. It's probably this nice warm weather. They stop squeeking when its wet. So in the UK, they don't squeek so much ...

Re: Have I bust it ?

Chris, spraying the bushes with Plusgas, or WD40 will shut them up for a while, but the only permanant answer is to swap them. It's a frustrating but all too common problem with the 156.
