I've swapped GTA leather inserts and this worked fine. You'll need a chisel-sized instrument and the trick is to pop the back of the leather insert from the pressed wood that forms the door card.
Start where access is easy and break the joint where the inset is glued to the card (looks like a wooden spot weld). The insert is saggy so will start to fall away. If the card is on the floor there is no chance of the insert falling far. The only care needed is where the insert curves around the card near to the door lock. Gently chisel away and the insert will free itself.
Once removed clean both the card and insert of excess material and ensure they line up before securing. I used hot glue to secure the insert. The insert has been in place since March and has not shown signs of coming loose yet...
