Ordered a new thermostat from my local Alfa specialist, fitted a week ago. During fitting, noticed temp. sender unit was incorrect (supplied with two pin, should be four), so I replaced it with the original, not happy with that, but too far into job to stop. Refilled expansion tank, run car up to temp. All good. Car then sat on drive for a week whilst working away. Returned to find level in tank dropped and noticed a weep from one union.
No worries, thinks I, a pain to rectify ( battery/tray out again) but wanted to change clutch slave anyway so .... Took out battery etc, only to find the entire bottom t-piece sheared off, coolant ****ing everywhere!!!My supplier says their factors will only consider a refund if I buy another one (oh yeah, right!) and they carry out tests on the broken one before considering refund.... In short, FOR GODS SAKE, DONT BUY A THERMOSTAT WITH A PLASTIC T PEICE ON THE BOTTOM FROM FIRSTLINE, they are utterly useless and if a motorfactor tries to supply you with one, tell them to stick it in their orifice .
Am now imagining sitting naked, in a tower, with a snipers rifle, outside my Alfa specialists parts suppliers....ARRRGGHHH!
One very ****ed off Alfa owner
