Short answer is no, you cant reporgramme City mode..But you're right, city mode is awful, much like rubbing sand in your eye balls.
The thing is, if you want an automatic, you buy an automatic.. The selespeed is an automated manual and is designed to be driven.. as a manual...
City mode is only really there for stop start traffic or for those muppets that might drive you car, but can't work out the concept of 1st gear.. 2nd gear.. you know the ones.. the automatic drivers. The only other reason for city is if you're trying to drink a take away coffee, smoke and talk on the phone.. it free's up a hand and takes care of the gears.. at least.. so you can concentrate on drinking and smoking.
The selsespeed hasn't missed the point, what it is, is an early version of a terrific idea. You want to be able to have control over the car.. thats not about the clutch, its about what gear your in.. the selespeed shifts faster too, and if you are really driving the car hard,, race track or hills.. the sele comes into its own.
You can manually shift an auto box, but torque converters arent clutches.. they are slow and cumbersome. A manual box is completely different to an auto box, the only difference in the sele is that the shifting and clutch actuated by hydraulics , not your hand and foot - but YOU Still have complete control over the cars power.
I guess the main difference with the Selespeed is that it can shift one hell of a lot faster than you or i can. Plus it will not allow you to over rev.. which is kinda nice. But its STILL a manual no matter which way you look at it.
It seems to me that you should have considered an automatic car.
