The only way to get a 2 stage map on ur car is to buy and install a Stand Alone Engine Managament system for the car.Motec M800 or Omex M700 are 2 examples that u can have 2-3 map settings installed.
Mainly used to tune or de-tune the engine power and settings depending on the weather whether its wet or dry or the type of driving/racing u need to do.
U simply use a switch button and a little dash mounted computer boxfor the switching of the maps. Its mainly used on track/racing cars.I have this function on my car,its linked to the launch control and anti-lag system on my car.I run Omex M700 engine management.
A standard re-map is fine for a normal road car/engine.Its more benifical and economic for the car,as this 2 stage engine management is a lot of £££s.Mine was over 3,500 euro installed. Then extra money to re-map the car and add launch control to it.
Unless ur going to tune the nutts out of ur car then theres no need for a 2 stage system, its pointless and a waste of money a normal remap is good enough for the car.
You would be better off to upgrade the injectors and get a slightly better fuel pump if u want more power and response.Standard Alfa 147 petrol injectors flow 177cc of petrol.
Upgrade to 197cc or 201cc injectors and a better fuel pump. This combined with a remaped ecu will give u a BIG increase over the standard setup.Up to 20bhp more.If u go over 201cc uprated injectors then the remapped ecu will have to be changed to stand alone management as the ecu parameters will not be able to let enough petrol flow for the bigger injectors to work properly.
