(Turbo Engine Kit 147 (230 bhp) 2.0 16v)
(Transforms Your 147 2.0 into GTA beater)
(price includes fitting) £3,250.00
A 3.2 litre 147 GTA is quoted at being 250bhp in standard trim.
A 147 GTA is 246-251bhp in reality. Most of the 3.2 litre GTAs here in Ireland are dynoed at 246bhp,but theres one that was dynoed at 251bhp bog standard. That one is the exception to the rest.
If u put in a stand alone ecu(Motec or Omex) or get a piggy back ecu custom made, uprated injectors and a front mount intercooler u will lower the intake air temp and this will allow u to run more boost and more fuel on the Autodelta T25 turbo kit.U might also need a bigger fuel pump too. This will be good for about 240-245bhp at 12 psi approx. But u will use alot more petrol with a turbo conversion.Thats pretty obvious from the word go anyway.
That T25 turbo is good for 12 psi boost on a standard twinspark without melting the pistons or the engine.Autodelta run the turbo kits at around 12-13psi boost depending on parts used and the engine involved. If u add these extra bits to the turbo kit,and run 1 bar boost then u might have a GTA beater.
U should be able to get 250-260bhp out of the 2 litre engine with these few extra bits added to the Autodelta turbo kit and run more boost. But u will melt a piston or throw a conrod or pop the head gasket after a little while driving with this sort of power.
Then ur looking at forged pistons and rods etc etc.U may also have to lower the compression ratio of the engine from 10:3-1 to 8:5-1This involves cylinder head work(skimming the head and getting matching pistons made to suit) and a thicker and stronger head gasket. It also may require some work to be done on the block too.
It sounds great having 230+bhp from a bolt on turbo conversion but what u have to remember is that standard parts wear out faster than normal.U will have to get forged internals if u want the car to be very faster than a GTA and reliable and u need to service the car much more often.
Trust me on this one as I know whats involved ito run a turboed alfa 147.Its costs lots £££s.
P.S U will also need to get an uprated clutch aswell.Otherwise u will burn the standard clutch out alot quicker.Clutch slip everywhere. And the only thing u will be "beating" is ur hand on the dashboard or steering wheel while cursing at the car
.I learnt this the hard way
