Engine transplant questions
My engine has failed under warranty. I have a 147 2.0 TS.
My alfa man has said that he would be prepared to fit a v6 engine rather than a TS one if I wished. I understand a fiat coupe route is easier, but I want to stick to the Alfa engine.
3.2 v6 are a fortune, but there seem to be quite a few GTV's and 166 being broken. Is there much weight differance between the 2.0 and the 3.0 engine? Would my standard suspension cope?
I understand it is a challenge, but he is willing to do the labour if I contribute towards the parts and engine. What parts would I need? wiring loom, drive shaft?
If I sourced a 5 speed 3.0 V6, can I use my exisiting 2.0 TS gearbox? Im assuming if it was a six speed, the six speed GTV / 156/ 166 box would fit?
I understand that the V6 the electronics are not the same as in the TS, so things like traction control maybe an issue, but us there anyway around this? Can the car be run using its original ECU for some areas and the V6 ECU for others? If so, which ECU would need to be responsible for which?
