147: Please help! Possible gear box problem?
I own a 2004 147 2.0 Twin Spark and was wondering if I could grab some of your insights.
My car usually runs pretty smooth, but occasionally it comes across a problem, which now cannot be ignored - I have not driven it for 4 days.
When accelerating from a stationary position, it feels that the power does not go to the wheels and the car slightly spins on the spot - depending on the force of my acceleration.
From a stop, it revs up in 1st gear with no movement of the car. It just feels like when I rev the engine, the power seems to cut out. The RPM gauge goes up and down as I accelerate, basically either causing the car to wheel spin and not move or just jump/"bunnyhop".
It was a difficult drive home; it ran fine after reaching the 2nd gear, but then breaking and traffic lights returned the car back to this state. The engine made a clicking sound every 5 seconds or so, as well as an electrical sound (the same sound the car makes when it is unlocked/turned on).
I've driven it less than 900km since I bought it, which may explain why it has not occurred to me that the car had such a big problem, but it has been driven to and from the coast (2 hour drive) and nothing went wrong the whole road trip.
May or may not be useful - this very incident happened a couple months ago not long after I purchased the car (driving in the city and on the highway) and after a struggle, with the wheels spinning on the spot in the middle of the highway, we got it to a petrol station and refilled the oil and gas tank, after which, it drove home fine.
Very rarely it happened again, and most of the time I passed it off at being a novice at driving an Alfa. Until the other day when it happened again, and 2 other, much more experience drivers had a go and it reacted as badly as before.
Sorry for the long essay! I've contacted local mechanics who have worked on other family members' cars, but they said they didn't want to touch an Alfa and I know I should take it to an actual Alfa Romeo dealer, but I thought I should head here first, before having to pay for it to get towed to the city as I wouldn't want to take the risk of driving it so far away under this condition.
Any suggestions on what this could be?
Thanks in advance!
