5w40 or 10w40 ?

Both oils are listed in the handbook. I was planning on getting the 5w40 Valvoline 5lt from eurocarparts -30% discount . Any general consensus here for a 156 1.9JTD 8V ?

On a side note, a friend of mine works for a BP. I beleive, once a year sale days, 1 lt of castrol magnatec is offered for 2

I have been running my JTD on 10w40 Valvoline but have since researched thoroughly and decided on the next oil change (this weekend) to swap to 5w40. The consensus seems to be that it's better for the turbo and I'm all for looking after that!

It won't make much difference. I would recommend changing either at 6k miles instead of 12k miles - thats what I do with my 2.4 10v JTD and thats at 172k - remapped when new and still on original turbo

5w40 on a 1.9 JTD 115hp from 2003. Oil+filter change every 20000 km, now 229000 km and same turbo
